I have been on a quest for quite some time now: to find the BEST set of headphones (for me).
I think I’ve found them:
The Sennheiser HD 598‘s are an absolute joy to use.
I have relatively big ears, so I was looking for over-ear headphones that were big and comfortable. The velour ear pads coupled with the padded “pillowy” headband make these some extremely comfortable headphones! I have no problem wearing these for hours on long editing sessions.
Now Joel, how do they sound though?
Well, let me tell you, they sound great. These headphones lean towards a “reference” set of headphones, meaning that the audio you play through them will sound as it was intended to. They have a fairly flat response overall.
The Mids and Highs really stand out on these headphones. Vocals and instrumentation are perfectly clear.
On the instrument note, I need to point out that these are open back headphones. This allows for a wide “sound stage,” so that you feel as if you can hear each instrument as though they are spread around you in the room. This does however lead to sound leak.
If you are bass head, these headphones might not be the best choice for you. The bass is indeed present, but not punchy or overwhelming. For my taste they are the perfect balance, but check them out to see if they are for you!
The 50-ohm impedance makes these compatible with any device like your phone, laptop, or tablet. An amplifier isn’t necessary, but if you have a DAC/Amp it will make the music come alive even more!
As you might have gathered already, I love these headphones! I am no audiophile, but these headphones have been wonderful over the past few months.
They are comfortable, sound great, and compatible with all my devices.
Oh, and they wont cost you an arm and a leg.
Let me know if you give them a try! Be sure to watch my video review as well if you’d like.
Also, check them out in black:
